Performing a Trace to Diagnose Server Problems

When you receive a server error message, you can perform a trace to find the source of the problem.

Procedure: How to Create a Server Diagnostic Package
  1. In the iWay Software, iWay 77 DataMigrator Server program folder, click Start Security ON/OFF With Traces from the Diagnostic Functions folder to start the server with traces.
  2. Reproduce the problem you encountered.
  3. In the iWay Software, iWay 77 DataMigrator Server program folder, click Stop.
  4. In the iWay Software, iWay 77 DataMigrator Server program folder, select Diagnostic Functions, and then click Save Diagnostic. Reply to the prompts to specify a location to save diagnostics and generate a list of the application directories that contain the files used to reproduce the problem.

    A diagnostics archive is created with a default name of sdyymmdd_hhmmss.zip.

  5. Upload the log file to Information Builders.

Procedure: How to Enable or Disable Traces on a Running Server

For reporting issues to Information Builders, the complete diagnostics package described in the previous procedure is necessary. However, for diagnosing your own problem, running a single trace may be useful.

  1. Using an Administrator User ID, expand Servers and then your server.
  2. Expand the Workspace folder and then expand the Logs and Traces folder.
  3. Right-click Traces and select Enable Traces or Disable Traces .

Procedure: How to View Traces

  1. Using an Administrator User ID, expand Servers and then your server.
  2. Expand the Workspace folder and then expand the Logs and Traces folder.
  3. Right-click Traces and select View.

    The Traces window opens in the workspace.

  4. Double-click the desired trace to open it. The trace opens in a new tab.

To view another trace, click the Traces tab and select the trace you wish to view.
