Data containing localized (international) characters must be stored in a UTF-8/Unicode-based text file. Language sets must be independent of one another. For example, Japanese and Arabic characters cannot be in one set of data.

By default, WebFOCUS Visual Discovery Workbench AE uses the default localization setting that is currently used by the operating system to interpret dates and currency, as well as present dates, currency, numbers, and strings. In addition, WebFOCUS Visual Discovery Server AE also references operating system localization settings.

Note:

Mixed Unicode-based characters are not typically supported, especially when working with English language settings.

You must convert WebFOCUS URLs containing NLS characters, specifically hi-bit with special characters, to use characters that are not NLS-based at this time.

For example, the following URL is not permitted.

In order to use it, you must change it to:

Windows Configuration for Localized Data

When WebFOCUS Visual Discovery Server AE and WebFOCUS Visual Discovery Workbench AE are installed on non-English Windows operating systems, the Japanese language Dynamic-link library (DLL) is installed, which causes issues with all localized installations. Specifically, incorrect characters displayed as a series of question marks (????) are included in the tooltips for graphs.

To eliminate the incorrect characters, delete the 1041 subfolder from the following locations:
