Distributing Data for Visual Discovery AE

In this section:

Report writers can create WebFOCUS procedures that prepare, model, and output data for use by Visual Discovery AE projects. The output of these procedures is used by Visual Discovery AE in several ways. For example:

x
Physical File

Using the SAVE or HOLD reporting options, a physical file is created in a specific directory. This directory must be accessible by WebFOCUS Visual Discovery Workbench AE.

If you are loading data from WebFOCUS Procedures or text files, ensure Network Service permissions are granted to the folder where the specific WebFOCUs procedure or text file is located.

For more information on using the SAVE or HOLD reporting options, see the Creating Reports With WebFOCUS Language documentation.

x
Web Browser Output

Using the default PCHOLD reporting option, the output is sent to the web browser where WebFOCUS Visual Discovery Workbench AE users can save the output as text files, or import the data directly into the Visual Discovery AE dashboards from live WebFOCUS procedures.

For more information on using the PCHOLD reporting option, see the Creating Reports With WebFOCUS Language documentation.

ReportCaster Bursting

ReportCaster can be used to schedule and burst Format VISDISAE reports. It allocates source data among Visual Discovery AE projects. For more information, see Publishing Visual Discovery AE Projects to a Larger (Web-Based) Audience and Using Parameterized Data Paths to Load Different Data Sets in a Published Project.

For more information on using ReportCaster to schedule reports, see the WebFOCUS ReportCaster documentation.

x
Ad Hoc Demand

For ad hoc demand, an interface is designated to pre-filter a data set for explicit use by Visual Discovery AE projects. The generated result set creates a Visual Discovery AE text file. Users are redirected to a Visual Discovery AE project, which loads the newly created text file data set or is passed as parameters to WebFOCUS procedures in order to load the data on demand. For more information, see Using Parameterized Data Paths to Load Different Data Sets in a Published Project. Or you can pass parameters to filter the live WebFOCUS procedures. For more information, see Designing a Project Using WebFOCUS Visual Discovery Workbench AE.
