Selecting Data

In this section:

Selection options allow you to identify a subset of data, and then compare it to the whole set of data.

Select data by clicking the area where it is displayed in the chart. To select multiple data points or categories, click and drag across the data you want to select. A square selection marquee will appear around the data that is selected. Release the mouse button when you are finished with your selection.

Selected data appears colored in the chart and unselected data is grayed out.

The following table lists and describes the selection buttons that are available in the toolbar to change the selection status of data.

Selection Button

Description

Select All. Selects all data that is not excluded.

Unselect All. Unselects all data that is not excluded.

Toggle Selection. Toggles between selected and unselected data.

Using Selection Modes

The following table lists and describes the selection mode buttons that are available in the toolbar to change the selection status of data.

Selection Mode

Description

Replace Selection Mode. Data that is selected using this tool replaces any data that was previously selected. This is the default setting.

Add Selection Mode. Adds data to an existing selection.

Subtract Selection Mode. Removes data from an existing selection.

Intersect Selection Mode. Selects the intersection of two fields, which is essentially an AND operation.
