After you generate data using WebFOCUS, you can create a project using WebFOCUS Visual Discovery Workbench AE to display the data as a variety of charts, maps, and graphs.

Procedure: How to Design a Project
  1. Open WebFOCUS Visual Discovery Workbench Analyst Edition (AE).
  2. Click New Project.
  3. On the Tasks pane, click Load New Data.

    The Data Wizard opens.

  4. Follow the initial prompts and accept the default values.
  5. In the Specify Data File dialog box, click Browse and navigate to the carvisdisae.txt file created earlier, which is located in the visdisproj folder (located outside the IBI directory structure).

    Note: If the file is stored on another machine, then a network path must be specified.

  6. Click Finish.

    The project is loaded in WebFOCUS Visual Discovery Workbench AE. The Workspace area displays a tab with different icons, which represent available components and charts.

  7. Click on the corresponding icons to add the following components:
    • A new Pie Chart.
      1. Confirm that the selected Data Table is the one loaded in previous steps.
      2. Select Field: COUNTRY
      3. Select Measure: SALES
      4. Click OK.
    • A new Bar Chart.
      1. Confirm that the selected Data Table is the one loaded in previous steps.
      2. Select Field: CAR
      3. Select Measure tab: Sum
      4. Check: SALES
    • A new Data Sheet.
      1. Confirm that the selected Data Table is the one loaded in previous steps.
      2. Select all displayed fields.
  8. Click and drag the charts to your desired location. To rearrange the charts, click and hold your mouse on the upper-left corner of the chart object, where the three horizontal lines are located. The cursor changes from a pointer to a cross-pointer.
  9. In the Color Toolbar, change Color by from <none> to COUNTRY.
  10. Save the Visual Discovery AE project in the same folder where the data is stored. Generally, this folder is located outside the IBI directory structure.

    Note: Visual Discovery AE projects can be saved as ADV or ADVM file types (.adv or .advm extension). ADVM files are portable, as they will include the data. Nevertheless, it is recommended that these files also be saved outside the IBI directory structure. In addition, WebFOCUS Visual Discovery Workbench AE maintains one backup copy of a project if you save over an existing one. As a result, if an error is encountered during the save process, you can rename the .backup file to .adv and retrieve the previous version.
