Scalability Considerations

In this section:

Memory requirements for Visual Discovery AE projects containing embedded data scale linearly with the number of concurrent sessions. Memory requirements for the first session are dependent on the following:

Memory requirements for the second and subsequent sessions depend mainly on the number and types of charts being used.

Small Project Scalability Example

A small project that loads 200 KB of data to display in 10 charts, uses up to 120 MB for the first session and 7.5 MB for each subsequent session, if all pages are opened in each session (+5-10% per user). The approximate RAM usage for a small project by concurrent sessions is listed in the following table.

Concurrent Sessions

Ram Usage - all pages open

Processor Cores

10

190 MB (+6% per user)

2

100

865 MB (+7% per user)

8

1000

7,615 MB (+7% per user)

64

Note: The number of concurrent sessions is affected by the session inactivity timeout, which defaults to 20 minutes.

x
Medium (Typical) Project Scalability Example

A typical, medium-sized project that loads 200 MB of data from text files to display in a total of 90 charts on 15 pages, might require 550 MB of RAM for the first session and an additional 150 MB for each subsequent session, if all of the 15 pages are opened on the subsequent sessions (+25-30%). This increase would be half if only one page is opened on subsequent sessions (+10-15%). The approximate RAM usage for a medium (typical) project by concurrent sessions is listed in the following table.

Concurrent Sessions

RAM Usage - all pages open

Processor Cores

10

1,900 MB (+25% per user)

4

100

15,800 MB (+28% per user)

16 (2 systems)

1000

154,000 MB (+28% per user)

160 (20 systems)

Note: The number of concurrent sessions is affected by the session inactivity timeout, which defaults to 20 minutes.

x
Large Project Scalability Example

A large project that loads several GB of data to display in 100 charts on 20 pages, requires up to 8 GB of RAM for the first session and 2 GB for each subsequent session, if all pages are opened on the subsequent sessions (+25-30%). The increase would be half if only one page is opened (+10-15%). The approximate RAM usage for a large project by concurrent sessions is listed in the following table.

Concurrent Sessions

Ram Usage - all pages open

Processor Cores

10

26 GB (+23% per user)

4

100

206 GB (+24% per user)

64

1000

2060 GB (+7% per user)
