WebFOCUS 8 Managed Reporting Applet-based Tools Consolidation

Effective with WebFOCUS 8, the Managed Reporting (MR) Applet User Interface, Reporting Objects Applet tool, Alert Wizard Applet, and Publish Utility Applet tool will not be distributed with the WebFOCUS Client installation. The Business Intelligence Dashboard will continue to be supported in WebFOCUS 8 and the Applet-based Reporting Objects and Alert Wizard tools are replaced with web-based Rich Internet Application facilities that will also eliminate the requirement to have a specific release of the Java Virtual Machine present on each end-user machine.

The Developer Studio HTML Composer tool is the recommended tool to create launch forms for Managed Reporting procedures. In addition, the Amper Autoprompt Facility can be utilized to dynamically create launch forms for procedures that utilize local amper variables that have not been assigned a value.

If you are using the MR Applet User Interface in WebFOCUS 7.x or an earlier release, it is important to understand that both the MR Applet user interface and Business Intelligence Dashboard utilize the same Managed Reporting repository for storing application content and user security information. The value added with Dashboard is the ability to create a customized user interface to access Managed Reporting, including the ability to allow user personalization. In addition, Business Intelligence Dashboard is a Section 508 Accessibility compliant user interface.
