Overview of Enterprise Monitoring

Enterprise Monitoring is made up of two basic elements: a single repository server, which is the server responsible for writing monitored information to the Resource Management central repository, and any number of non-repository servers where business users connect and run requests. Non-repository servers communicate with the repository server, which then stores the monitored information.

The repository server has a special service defined (RARG_SVC) that processes the monitored data insert requests from the non-repository servers. The non-repository servers have the metadata for the repository described using the syntax of SUFFIX=EDA. The access files point to the repository server so that Resource Analyzer reports, which are run on each non-repository server, can retrieve the stored monitored data from the repository server.

Always configure the repository server before you configure any non-repository servers.

Note:

An example of enterprise monitoring, using a relational repository, can be seen in the following image.

An example of enterprise monitoring, showing a repository server also acting as a non-repository server, can be seen in the following image.
